Burckhardt Compression is a Swiss industrial company that builds and services large reciprocating compressors — machines that pressurize gases like natural gas, hydrogen, and industrial chemicals. Its customers include oil and gas producers, petrochemical plants, and industrial gas companies around the world. The company is one of the largest dedicated manufacturers of reciprocating compressors globally, with roots going back to 1844.

The company earns money two ways: selling new compressor systems and, importantly, selling spare parts and maintenance services over the long life of those machines. It operates across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, generating roughly 1.7 billion Swiss francs in market value. Its moat comes from the highly engineered nature of its equipment and a large installed base that keeps customers coming back for parts and service for decades. The key growth driver is rising demand for hydrogen compression as energy transition projects expand, though a slowdown in oil and gas capital spending remains a meaningful risk.
