Kearny Financial Corp. is a regional bank headquartered in New Jersey. It offers everyday banking services like checking and savings accounts, home loans, and business loans to individuals and small businesses across New Jersey and parts of New York. It operates through its main subsidiary, Kearny Bank, which has been serving local communities for over 130 years.

Kearny makes money primarily by collecting interest on loans — especially residential mortgages and commercial real estate loans — while paying lower interest rates to depositors. The bank operates roughly 40 branch locations concentrated in the New York metro area, giving it a defined but limited geographic footprint. With a market cap around $0.5 billion, it is a small community-focused bank competing against much larger regional and national banks. The main risk the business faces is interest rate pressure: when the gap between what it earns on loans and what it pays on deposits narrows, profitability shrinks, which its current low return on invested capital already reflects.
