Northam Platinum Holdings is a South African mining company that digs platinum group metals (PGMs) out of the ground. These metals — platinum, palladium, and rhodium — are used mainly in catalytic converters for cars, as well as in jewelry and industrial processes. Northam operates several mines along South Africa's Bushveld Complex, one of the richest PGM deposits on Earth.

The company makes money by selling refined PGMs to industrial buyers, automakers, and commodity traders. It operates entirely within South Africa, making it a mid-sized producer in a market dominated by a handful of large miners like Anglo American Platinum and Sibanye-Stillwater. Northam's access to the Bushveld Complex gives it a natural resource advantage, but the business is heavily exposed to volatile PGM prices, which have fallen sharply in recent years as electric vehicles — which don't need catalytic converters — gradually reduce long-term demand for palladium and platinum in the auto sector.

Growth + cash flow

Northam Platinum Holdings Limited is a rare growth stock that's already generating positive cash flow while growing at 16%. The Winston Score doesn't fully credit this transition from "burner" to "earner."

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
