Northern Star Resources is an Australian gold mining company. It digs gold out of the ground at large mines in Australia and Alaska, then sells that gold to banks, refiners, and other buyers in the global commodities market. It is one of the largest gold producers listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.

The company makes money by selling gold at market prices, so its profits rise and fall with the price of gold. Northern Star operates primarily in Western Australia — home to its flagship Kalgoorlie operations — and at the Pogo mine in Alaska, giving it geographic diversification across two stable mining jurisdictions. Its main competitive advantage is owning large, long-life ore deposits with significant gold reserves still in the ground. The key growth driver is a major expansion underway at its Kalgoorlie operations, which aims to increase annual gold production meaningfully over the next several years, though higher capital costs and falling gold prices remain the primary risks to that plan.
