Prairie Operating Co. is a small oil and natural gas company that drills for and produces energy resources in the United States. It focuses on the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin in Colorado, selling crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids to energy buyers and commodity markets. The company has grown partly through acquisitions of existing producing assets in the region.

Prairie Operating makes money by selling the oil and gas it pulls out of the ground, with revenue tied directly to commodity prices. It is a micro-cap company with a market value around $100 million, competing against much larger producers in the DJ Basin such as Civitas Resources and Chord Energy. Its relatively thin asset base and small size mean it has limited pricing power and less financial cushion if oil or gas prices drop sharply — commodity price swings remain the single biggest risk to its business.

Prairie Operating is growing revenue at 514% year-over-year. The Winston Score penalises unprofitable companies, but revenue at this pace tells a different story — this is a company still in "build mode."

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
