Sprott Physical Gold Trust is a Canadian investment fund that lets everyday investors own real, physical gold without having to store it themselves. Instead of buying gold bars or coins, investors buy shares of this trust, and the trust holds actual gold bullion in secure vaults on their behalf. It is one of the largest physically backed gold funds in North America.

The trust makes money by charging a small annual management fee, currently around 0.35% of assets, deducted from the gold held in the fund. It is managed by Sprott Asset Management and is listed on both the NYSE and Toronto Stock Exchange, giving it broad reach across North American investors. The main appeal is that each share is redeemable for physical gold, which some investors see as a stronger guarantee than paper-backed alternatives. The biggest risk is that gold prices can fall sharply, which would reduce the value of the trust's assets and likely cause investors to sell their shares.
